Letter from Jeff Blasius, NESO President

Dr. Jeff Blasius

Let me first say what an honor it has been to serve the NESO membership, at a Regional and National level over the past few years.  We have so many wonderful, dedicated members and volunteer leaders who truly work tirelessly to ensure your membership provides a great value.  We would have never anticipated at the beginning of my tenure to have to cancel the in-person meeting in Montreal and pivot to our virtual approach, NESOCON 2020.  We hope all attendees find the $79 registration fee a great value and use of your time.  For every Tuesday evening in October and on Friday and Saturday, November 6-7, we will be providing some great CE, access to vendors, and original programming.  If you are unsure you can make those dates, have no fear as all registered attendees will be able to access any of the online content for the next six months.

Our virtual Exhibit Hall will offer you the opportunity to visit one-on-one with the many exhibitors on the floor.  Have you been eying a specific product/service or waiting to order it for the ‘show discount?  If so, this is a great time to visit our virtual exhibit hall, ask all your questions, and get answers from the companies that are unable to come into our offices right now.

One of the things we will miss most from the in-person meeting is the opportunity to see old friends and visit with others from all different practice modalities.  We always seem to find some great clinical pearl, whether it be clinical, or practice related that we take back to our office and implement.  Do you have something great that you have figured out, some clinical trick you have developed over your time in practice, something that has changed the way you work, or something that just makes you smile?  Does your staff have a fun video to share? If so, please be sure to submit a video, and we will be broadcasting them at the Friday, November 6th Happy Hour.  There will be cash prizes for both doctors and staff, and with good participation the hour will fly by.

Additionally, our first annual NESO Cup competition will be an hour dedicated to our residents of the region.  We will choose 10-12 five-minute TED-style talks from the residents to present to our membership.  The topics can vary from a great clinical case, original research, or really anything that will sure to be a highlight of the meeting.  Cash prizes are also offered to the best two TED talks.

Our Scientific topics from Won Moon (midface expansion of OSA patients). Neal Kravitz (esthetic tips for finishing canine substitution cases), and Lucia Cevidanes (3D imaging) will certainly offer quality original programming.  Our Sponsored series will feature speakers Tarryn MacCarthy (positioning your practice for success), Brian Amy (succeeding amongst a global pandemic), Steve Volcko (benefits of Ortho 2’s Edge Cloud), are among the many other speakers offering quality content.

Please be sure to thank our many sponsors- Invisalign, Ortho2, Dental Monitoring, 3M, Henry Schein Orthodontics and Light Force Orthodontics.  We would not be able to host the in person or virtual meetings without the continued support of our sponsors, for which we are grateful.

Register early for NESOCON 2020, submit your videos, and enjoy our virtual event!  We hope you stay safe, be well, and continue to prosper under the “new normal”.  We can all use another reason to smile nowadays, even if it is under a N95 mask or behind a shield, covered head to toe.

With warmest regards,

Jeff Blasius

NESO 2020 President

P.S.  Special Thanks also extended to Drs. Flavio Uribe, Gary Opin, and Sunil Wadhwa for being part of the planning committee for NESOCON 2020.
