The New York State Society of Orthodontists passed by-laws changes at their annual meeting held on October 6, 2007 in conjunction with the NESO annual meeting in Boston, Mass. The suggested changes came from the tireless efforts of the NYSSO by-laws committee which was staffed by Dr. Gary Puccio, Dr. Lawrence Seitelman, Dr. Jeffrey Bassin, Dr. Eric Ploumis and Dr. Scott Stein. The by-laws changes will help NYSSO operate in a more efficient and contemporary fashion. A new slate of executive board officers was also elected and includes Dr. Gary Puccio - President, Dr. Sal Manente - Vice President, and Dr. Jeffrey Bassin - Secretary/Treasurer. Terms begin in January of 2008.
NYSSO continues to help support and promote member continuing education. They again participated in the Greater New York Dental Meeting in November of 2007 with the help and guidance of Dr. Robert Carter. The University of Pennsylvania was featured. Dr. Daniel Fishel, a senior Perio-Orthodontic resident, was the speaker. The presentation was entitled, “T.A.D.S.- Elation, Agitation and Frustration.” NYSSO continuing education courses are a tuition-free member benefit that grants CE credits.
Plans are in place to continue NYSSO's presence at the Greater New York Dental Meeting in 2008 and 2009. On November 30, 2008, NYSSO will offer a presentation by the Orthodontic Department of SUNY Stony Brook. Dr. Richard Fabor is organizing the presentation featuring the relationship of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics.
The next NYSSO-sponsored CE program will be held on April 18, 2008 in Yonkers, NY. The speaker will be Dr. James Hilgers presenting a myriad of contemporary topics including TAD's, self-ligation, and soft tissue lasers. More information can be found on the NYSSO link at the NESO Web site NESO.org
Québec Association of Orthodontists
Dr. Daniel Tanguay, QAO President
Our first meeting of the year was on October 2, 2007. We had Dr. Lynn Pannuci talk about reaching the equilibrium in our lives. This was a full-day presentation.
The second speaker we heard was on November 23, 2007, when Dr. Hee-Moon Kyung from South Korea presented interesting material on the very promising technique of microimplants for temporary anchorage.
On March 28, 2008, les Journées Paul Geoffrion will host Dr. Leslie Will and Dr. Larry Andrews for a full-day conference.
Dr. Marcel Korn will talk to us about early treatment and orthodontic treatment alternatives in cases where surgery would be the ideal option. This conference is being held during Les Journées Dentaires Internationales du Québec, on May 26, 2008.
The QAO will hold its annual general assembly on that same day. In the evening, the President’s reception will allow all the QAO members to mingle, have fun and enjoy the friendship and camaraderie of our colleagues.

The Vermont Association of Orthodontists annual meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 28, 2008. The guest speaker for this meeting will be Dr. William Wilcko and the topic, "The Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics(TM) Procedure - Faster Treatment and Superior Results".
